Navy Nurse at Castaway Show in Hawaii

Navy Nurse at Castaway Show in Hawaii

As a Hawaiian Hospitality activity, the Women’s Division of the USO entertained the nurses flying to the South Pacific Islands during their stay in Hawaii. Shown in the picture is Mr. Loring Hudson, lecturer of the Cast-a-way show at the Bishop Museum, demonstrating to Ensign Winnie Hamlett of Mena, Arkansas, the extraction of juices from certain tropical plants which can be used for poultices. In the background is seen a handwoven “lean to” as used in the tropics.
